How do I get a prescription wig?
Step 1: Get a prescription for a wig
Make an appointment with your doctor or a specialist. These include:
- family doctors
- dermatologists
- Gynecologists (especially in cases of hair loss after chemotherapy)
- oncologists
If medically necessary, the doctor will issue you a prescription for a wig. It is important that the prescription includes the diagnosis (often as an ICD-10 code) for the condition that is causing the hair loss.
Step 2: Determine the amount of coverage by your health insurance company
Not every health insurance company covers the same costs. It is therefore advisable to contact your health insurance company early on to find out which amounts will be covered.
Statutory health insurance companies often have fixed maximum amounts, while private health insurance companies may have more flexible regulations.
Our tip: Some health insurance companies cover the full cost of a wig, while others only pay a portion, especially for more expensive models such as real hair wigs. Therefore, find out in advance about the exact amount of the co-payment and which models are subsidized.

Please note that (unless you are exempt from co-payment) there is also a statutory co-payment of usually 10€ for the provision of wigs.

Step 4: Approval of the health insurance company
If you have decided on a wig, we will obtain approval from your health insurance company for you with the corresponding amount of medical aid by means of an electronic cost estimate. In addition to the prescription, we also need consultation documentation and a declaration of additional costs (we will be happy to provide you with both documents).
Step 5: Redeem the prescription and have it billed to your health insurance company
As soon as you have decided on a wig, you can redeem the prescription with us. We take care of the entire billing with your health insurance company, so you don't have to worry about anything else. At La Peruca, we work closely with all statutory health insurance companies and are prequalified as a certified hair replacement specialist and are authorized to bill your health insurance company directly.

If you choose a more expensive model, such as a real hair wig, you may have to pay an additional fee. The exact amount of the cost coverage varies depending on the health insurance company and region. The prescription should not be older than 28 days when submitted.

You are now the proud owner of a wig that was prescribed on prescription. We will send you an invoice with all the details of the purchase.
